Student support

All international students work with Mrs. Uher, their academic advisor.  She teaches them valuable study skills and tutors them in subjects with high academic language.

American students at Shoreland serve as mentors for the international students.  They help them acclimate to life at our school and in our culture.  Group activities encourage integration and friendships blossom from these relationships.

The Student Services department advises with college and career planning.  Regular meetings are held throughout the school year so that students stay on top of planning for the future.

Curriculum

Shoreland’s academic programs are designed to empower all students to reach their full potential.  Students have the opportunity to explore a wide range of subjects, discover what they love, and apply their knowledge in new and meaningful ways.

College-bound students are thoroughly prepared with classes of rigor including a host of AP classes.  To learn more about all of our classes, please explore our class offerings here.

Students enrolled in the STEM Academy at Shoreland develop in-demand skills such as problem solving, critical and creative thinking, collaboration and communication – while experiencing the wonders of God’s creation.

Through our Project Lead The Way (PLTW) curriculum pathways in computer science, engineering and biomedical science, students engage in hands-on activates, projects, and problems; solve challenges, and reimagine how they see themselves.

The PLTW Computer Science interdisciplinary courses engage students in compelling computer science challenges. As students work together to design solutions, they learn more than just how to code, developing computational thinking and communication skills for our increasingly technology-based economy. Learn More

PLTW Biomedical Science introduces high school students to medicine and human body systems, as well as the wide array of biomedical science careers. Throughout the program, students take on the same challenges as biomedical
science professionals, preparing them for careers in medical and health-related fields. Learn More

PLTW Engineering empowers high school students to step into the role of an engineer and adopt a problem-solving mindset. Students engage in collaborative activities like working with a client to design a home, programming electronic devices or robotic arms, and exploring algae as a biofuel source. Learn More

LTW’s instructional design centers on hands-on, real-world activities, projects, and challenges that help students apply the knowledge and skills they develop in the classroom to everyday life. This approach provides students with unique opportunities to work collaboratively, build communications skills, persevere through challenges, and find unique solutions.  The PLTW program empowers students to explore career paths and lead their own learning.

The Skilled Trades Academy: Experience interactive classes, new technology, and the fun and energy of our growing program. Our curriculum and community partnerships provide students with tremendous opportunities to participate in hands-on learning, apprenticeships, and on-the-job training before graduating from high school. Students can even earn certifications while at Shoreland and, in some cases, receive job offers.

Highly skilled and well-trained workers are in great demand, and Shoreland’s top-notch Skilled Trades Academy helps students find their passion, kickstart their careers, and make a positive impact in their school, homes, churches, and workplaces. Our teachers know each student by name, and our classroom environments are ideal places to build lifelong friendships.

The Fine Arts Program is a fundamental part of a well-rounded education. Engage your ability to listen, create, reason, imagine, feel and express your faith through classes, private lessons, and numerous groups.  Students are offered opportunities to participate in band, choral groups, and a string ensemble.
