Dannevirke High School was founded in 1903 and is situated in the beautiful Tararua in the Manawatu/Whanganui region, North Island, New Zealand. The school occupies 12.7ha of land and the campus includes classrooms, an administration block, gymnasium, swimming pool, computer suites, assembly hall, music and drama suites, library, and technology facilities. The school has 7.36 ha of playing fields and is renowned for its attractive grounds and environment.

Accommodation

Homestay - $275 per week.

The Director of International Education will arrange full board. Local families are carefully selected to ensure a comfortable and friendly living environment with all host families have all been cleared by the Police Vetting process.

The accommodation fee includes three daily meals and laundry service.
Students are encouraged to regard themselves as part of the host family.

Sports

Dannevirke High School has beautiful grounds with extensive sporting fields. The school enters sports teams into a wide range of interschool competitions, with a Sports Co-ordinator who has a vital role in encouraging and organising activities throughout the year.

Students are encouraged to get involved in sport for the development of their physical well-being, team skills, competitiveness, self-discipline, commitment, and fair play.

Students participate in numerous sporting codes, subject to availability. These include Rugby, Hockey, Multisport, Netball, Volleyball, Ki O Rahi, Basketball, Squash, Athletics, Cricket, Touch Rugby, Soccer, Equestrian, Golf, Cross Country, Swimming and Badminton.

There are also other sports and activities offered within the community including Tennis, Bowls, Judo, Boxing, and access to a well-equipped gymnasium.

Dannevirke High School has a vibrant Performing Arts Department. Students are encouraged to perform in school productions, talent quests, concerts and recitals within the community. Tuition for a range of instruments is available and the school provides students with the opportunity to sit Music theory exams.

The Kapa Haka Māori Cultural Group performs regularly throughout the year.

Application process

Enrolment forms are available from the school website or can be emailed or posted if required.
The school seeks to recruit students who have some English language skills, e.g. ability to answer simple questions and a willingness to make themselves understood in English. However, intensive English language tutoring is available. Where additional ESOL tuition is needed, over and above the normal programme offered, there will be and extra charge.
It is important that students have a genuine desire to learn, and they must have a good record of attendance at their previous school.
Students must be willing to sign the Code of Practice and abide by the rules as they apply to International Students.
School reports and testimonials should accompany an application to study.
The school reserves the right to place the student in appropriate courses based on the students interests and abilities.

Dannevirke is a caring rural community, situated 50 minutes from the nearest major city and airport. A wide range of outdoor activities are available locally.
