Description

Evans Bay Intermediate School is an intermediate school that caters for the need of Year 7 and 8 students - the emerging adolescents. We have an inclusive environment and a welcoming community. We have students from many different countries in the world. Our aim is to ensure that students’ time at our school will be a rewarding experience. Part of the experience will include high-quality education and pastoral care. Intermediate schools are unique and provide a middle-school education specifically designed for this age group. We offer:
● two years of appropriate, challenging and success-oriented learning and life experiences.
● a wide and exciting variety of sporting and cultural activities.
● varied opportunities to learn, to grow and to develop.
● the opportunity to achieve to the best of his/her ability.
The school is set in a beautiful part of Wellington close to safe, clean beaches for swimming and facilities for sporting and leisure activities.

Tuition costs

$400 per week

Accommodation homestay,

Homestay Accommodation:
The school selects very carefully the families who offer homestay accommodation to International Students. Students will be placed with a New Zealand homestay family who will care for them and ensure they are well supported during their enrollment at Evans Bay Intermediate School. Costs are $300 per week.

Living with a Designated Caregiver
The parent of an international student can nominate a close family friend or relative to take care of their child during their study in New Zealand. This is the person that the student will live with during their time at Evans Bay Intermediate School and will have the overall responsibility of the students. Please note that a Designated Caregiver is NOT a Legal Guardian.

Living with a Parent:
Parents must have a guardianship visa if staying for over 3 calendar months and must continue to live with their child during the course of their study. Students need to live within a reasonable travelling distance to Evans Bay Intermediate School.

Student support

We have a pastoral care program which is based on the expectations of the Ministry of Education.

English as second language

We have an ESOL teacher who is scheduled to teach students at different levels according to their needs. Students are part of the mainstream class for most of the time and are withdrawal for ESOL classes. These can vary from small groups to one-one lessons.

Cultural Learning
Aotearoa New Zealand has a proud bi-cultural history. At St Heliers School our students are exposed to a range of cultural experiences relating to Tikanga, Te Reo and Te Ao Māori. We aim to uphold all of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.

Cycle track, Interchallenge, basketball, football, badminton, netball, hockey, waterpolo, Inter Class; School Sports; Zone; all Wellington and regional sports competitions

Application process

Students apply by completing the application forms that can be found on the school website. When students arrive at school, they will do an informal assessment so that we can see at what level their English is.

Curriculum

The learning programmes are based on the New Zealand Curriculum as prescribed by the New Zealand Ministry of Education.

All classes at Evans Bay Intermediate are composite Year 7 and Year 8 homeroom.
