Application process

students are required to complete an enrolment document, submit a (translated) copy of their most recent school report, and a piece of writing telling us about themselves and their motive for wanting to study at Villa and to live in Christchurch. Skype interviews can be arranged, if necessary. Students are required to have an intermediate level of English. If on assessment, the student’s English skills are not adequate for her to study at Villa Maria, she may be required to attend an intensive English language course (or private institution) before beginning her course at the College.

Features of the local area

Known as the Garden City, Christchurch is a top 10 world city (Lonely Planet, 2013), and voted 2nd by the New York Times in 2014. It has the fastest growing economy in NZ due to a recent $40 billion investment that has attracted international companies offering centres of excellence. Christchurch is serviced by outstanding tertiary providers such as the University of Canterbury, Lincoln University, and the ARA institute of Canterbury.

The region holds a unique blend of scenery offering ski fields, surf breaks, beaches and rivers, cycle ways and walking tracks, all within an hour of the city. The South Island is the epi-centre of world adventure tourism. Within a relatively short distance of the city you can be white water rafting, sailing, swimming with dolphins, whale watching, jet-boating, parapenting, or relax and go punting on the Avon River. If you are looking to try something different, the Christchurch Adventure Park has recently opened and offers some of the best downhill mountain biking in the Southern Hemisphere.

Curriculum

All students are encouraged to strive for excellence and we offer a broad curriculum which prepares students for University and other tertiary institutions. We are extremely proud of our reputation as a top performing college for girls. Our NCEA results are consistently within the top four Christchurch schools. With a highly-qualified and dedicated team of staff, we make every effort to design academic programmes that suit each International student.
