Sacred Heart College Lower Hutt has a school roll of around 830 students and provides secondary education from Years 9 to 13. The school provides high-quality education for all students in a safe and caring environment. The school is particularly strong in sports, music and performing arts. There is a sports academy at Sacred Heart and a performing arts centre. We are located 15 minutes from downtown Wellington, the capital of New Zealand. We currently have international students from China, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. We have sister schools in Japan and the United States.

What are the entry requirements for Sacred Heart College?
There are no particular entry requirements for Sacred Heart College but we do prefer students who have some basic knowledge of English.
Tuition costs

Tuition is $NZD16,500 for 1 year. We also offer short courses-please contact the International Student Manager for a quote.

 

Archdiocese, Pastoral, Admin and MOE fees will be around $2300 in 2024.

 
Accommodation homestay,

We offer homestay accommodation with families who are affiliated with our school and located close to SHC. Homestay is $330 per week in 2024 and includes 3 meals per day.

English as second language

We have 4 dedicated and qualified ESOL teachers and class sizes are small. We also offer one on one tuition to international students at no extra cost who are sitting NCEA.

Sports

Sports and extracurricular activities: Sacred Heart College has a strong tradition in Sport, offering all our students opportunities to participate in a range of individual and team sports, at both a competitive and non-competitive level. Sacred Heart College is very proud of its sporting achievements at both a regional and national secondary level.
Our teams compete in regular weekly competitions and annual tournaments. Sacred Heart College teams are also involved in a variety of traditional sporting events; Te Toa Hockey, Mission Cup Netball and St Mary’s winter sport exchange.
The codes offered at Sacred Heart College are the following: Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Bowls, Cricket, Cross Country, Football, Golf, Hockey, Netball, Rowing, Rugby, Softball, Squash, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Touch, Volleyball and Waterpolo.

We have many extracurricular activities such as choir, civil defence, debating, kapa haka, orchestra, percussion group and volunteering club vinnytas. Students are encouraged to provide service to the college, community and previous schools.
Facilities

Facilities include a gymnasium, "Fit Pit", tennis and netball courts, a squash court and use of the Hutt Recreation Ground.

Features of the local area

Sacred Heart College Lower Hutt is located in central Lower Hutt which is 15 minutes from downtown Wellington, the capital of New Zealand. The beach, shopping mall, swimming pools, museums and public transport are all located within 5 kilometres from the school.
Curriculum

We offer a wide range of subjects. Fashion design, painting and sculpture, food and nutrition, dance, digital technology and design are just some of the subjects on offer!
