Ellesmere College

Zodie Bonnett

Director of International Students, Deputy Principal

Description Ellesmere College is a medium sized (570 students), family-oriented and academically-focused rural high school making it an ideal environment for students coming to New Zealand. We are proud of our proven record to develop students' abilities and support them from the day that they arrive with us to the day they leave. Our relationship often goes further as we enjoy on-going contact with many of our past students. We pride ourselves on:
    • Having a dedicated and highly skilled staff devoted to developing the very best teaching programmes and supporting students in mentoring programmes to ensure high academic results.
    • Creating a caring family environment in a school where students are encouraged to actively accept differences in culture and background, allowing all our students to benefit from the shared understanding.
    • Developing and reviewing support for overseas students, this happens on a regular basis as we discuss ways to improve our already strong programmes with our professional staff and homestay facilitators.
    • Maintaining a strong liaison with Tertiary institutions, being close to Lincoln and Canterbury Universities, to ensure all our students have the opportunity to continue their studies after they leave the College and have all the appropriate skills and qualifications to access Tertiary study.
    • Supporting co-curricular activities providing all our students with chances to excel and enjoy activities outside of the classroom.
Located in the small and safe rural town of Leeston, only 30 minutes south of Christchurch and 45 minutes to local ski fields, Ellesmere College allows international students to experience the quintessential “kiwi” lifestyle, while also having everything that a large urban area has to offer only a short distance away. We value our positive school environment and look forward to welcoming future overseas students to develop a personalized pathway together.
