Description

Menaul School is a college preparatory day and boarding school (grades 6-12) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, founded in 1896 with a long history of welcoming international students from around the world. Menaul provides the foundation for life-long learning and ethical leadership and prepares students – in mind, body, and spirit – to be world smart and serve as responsible global citizens.

We offer an ESL program, dual credit options, short-term global exchanges, and small, personalized classes.  Our students are accepted to world-class universities, including Harvard, Brown, St. Andrews, King’s College London, and New York University. Students who graduate from Menaul School are also able to receive in-state tuition at universities in New Mexico (which can represent savings of up to $15,000 per year) and can go on to pursue jobs in Albuquerque’s key industries, such as aerospace, STEM, and film.

Boarding students: $39,755 (includes room and board, activities, health insurance, and English language support)

We have boarding facilities for boys and for girls. We also offer a host family program with an extra cost.

Student support

We have a 24-hour counsellor support for all students, and Dorm parents, who are readily accessible to students, as are other members of the Residential Life Staff, including the Residential Life Coordinator. Dorm Parents play an integral role in Menaul’s boarding students’ lives. They supervise students’ academic progress, ensure that they focus on their studies, and help them to obtain any needed extra help. Also, Dorm Parents lead off-campus activities on weekends and serve as adult mentors – offering a listening ear to students when they need to talk or be counselled on personal matters.

Sports

We offer coaching and training in football, basketball, track and field, cross country, volleyball, and soccer club. Students have many opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities, clubs, and organizations. Clubs change from year to year, depending on student interest. Students may develop new clubs with the support of an advisor. Examples of different clubs are robotics, martial arts, People to People International, Model United Nations, and Junior Civitan (service to the community). We also have a Student Council to represent the students to the administration and to plan fun social activities for students, such as movie nights, game nights, dances, pep rallies, and various outings. Additionally, students can participate in choir, drama, and band.

Features of the local area

New Mexico is located in the Southwestern of the United States and is the fifth-largest state in the country. The state is popular for having all four seasons and sunshine an average 310 days out of the year. New Mexico has more than 5,000 valleys and 4,800 lakes. The mountain in Albuquerque, Sandia Peak, has an elevation of 10,678 feet (3,255 m) above sea level.

 

Science and technology are the two greatest fields in Albuquerque: Sandia National Laboratories is the country’s largest national lab; also Los Alamos Lab, Intel, Hewlett-Packard, and Technology Ventures Corporation are examples of Albuquerque’s great tech industries. Along with the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico Tech is a nationally recognized university in Socorro that focuses on science and engineering research. New Mexico also has a rapidly growing film industry with Netflix’s new production studio coming to Albuquerque.

 

There is always an abundance of fun and exciting opportunities for students to experience on the weekends. The residence life program offers many unique experiences associated with New Mexico, including the Sandia Mountains, Santa Fe National Forest, Petroglyph National Monuments, Carlsbad Caverns, and White Sands National Park, and there are plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking, white water rafting, skiing, snowboarding, and rock climbing. Albuquerque is also famous for the largest international air balloon festival in the world.

Curriculum

We are a College preparatory school with an interdisciplinary curriculum that also includes a variety of electives. We follow the STEM program, IPad program and we are strong in the Arts (including music curriculum).
