Description

Lindisfarne College is a State Integrated Presbyterian Boarding and Day School for boys in Years 7-13 (ages 11-18 years). It has a roll of 500 boys. Situated in Hastings - a safe provincial city with excellent links to International Airports, the College is a welcoming school with a strong supportive community.

Lindisfarne is well known as one of the top performing academic schools for boys in the country with NCEA pass rates consistently in the 92-100% range. The College has consistently performed well in University Scholarship Examinations and 95% of students go on to University study in New Zealand or overseas. Opportunities for accelerated learning are encouraged. Lindisfarne is a College where boys learning is our focus and we are part of a strong International Boys Schools Coalition that shares the best teaching practices for boys. In addition to a strong academic programme the College has a very strong music and cultural programme. This includes a Pipe Band, three Concert and Symphonic bands, Jazz band, Chamber music, rock groups and a choir. Individual music lessons are popular with some 45% of boys involved. Drama productions and Musicals are annual events as well as House Music, Drama, Debating and Speech competitions. Sporting participation is compulsory and a wide range of sports are available. Chapel services are a regular feature of College life.

Tuition costs

NZ $35000 (includes Boarding accommodation, tuition) and

$3000 incidental expenses.

Accommodation

Students are expected to live in the Boarding facility to enable integration into College life, English immersion and development of friendships. The well-structured boarding community welcomes and embraces International students who are enriched by the Lindisfarne experience.

Homestays for holidays and exeat weekends are arranged at a current cost of $30.00 a day. International students are given the opportunity to experience homestays with parents of boys from the College that live locally or on farms, orchards etc. in the Hawke's Bay and East Coast region.

Student support

Careers and Course advice is available to every student. Pastoral care is provided by House Deans, International Student Director and Boarding Staff. The Matron who is a trained Nurse cares for health needs and the College Doctor is available each morning.

Sports

Lindisfarne College offers a variety of opportunities for our International Students. A wide range of sports are available and sporting participation is compulsory. A quality Music, Public Speaking, Debating, and Drama programme is also available.

Facilities

The College is a warm and welcoming environment with a comfortable, clean and secure boarding facility. Boys quickly make friends and their English language skills improve quickly in a full immersion environment. Boarding provides full access to the excellent facilities of the College including the library, computer and weights room. The spacious grounds and gardens provide a relaxed and pleasant learning environment.

Application process

Applicants require a level of English to allow success at the entry level. School reports and a Skype interview are required. A commitment to academic study and the wider life of the College is an expectation.

Features of the local area

The Hawke’s Bay region is a popular tourist area with beaches, rivers, and rural experiences. The mountain areas are easily accessible for walks, climbing and skiing. The region is known for its warm, dry climate and supports a thriving horticultural, wine growing and farming industry. The twin cities of Napier and Hastings along with the popular town of Havelock North provide all the facilities of larger cities at far lower prices.

The National NCEA qualifications including Scholarship Exams.

Cambridge Mathematics is offered to top year 11 Maths students.
