Description | Papanui High School is a Christchurch community based state co-educational secondary school with a roll of 1500 students from Yr 9 to Yr 13. The school has welcomed international students for over 30 years and has approx 60 full time students each year. The student population is diverse with students coming from a range of cultural backgrounds. Strengths include Outdoor Education, Music, Drama, Dance and Technology. |
Tuition costs | Tuition 2024/25 Fees 4 terms of study $17,750 (includes $500 admin fee) 3 terms of study $13,750 (includes $500 admin fee) 2 terms of study $9,500 (includes $500 admin fee) 1 term of study $5,000 (includes $500 admin fee) Less than 1 term of study: $600 per week + $500 admin fee Additional Costs: These are costs that students may incur once their subject is confirmed and they are attending class. They vary according to the individual programme chosen by the student, and are not covered by the standard tuition fee. They may include:
Uniform: Year 9 – 12 students: Approximately $600 new or $300 second-hand Year 13 students: - no uniform. Short-term students can also hire a uniform from us at a cost of $100 Insurance: International students must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance to meet Code of Practice and Immigration requirements while in New Zealand. Uni-Care Travel and Medical Insurance may be arranged through our school. |
Accommodation | Homestay fee 2024: $310.00 per week Homestay fee 2025: $340.00 per week This includes all meals and laundry. |
Student support | International students are well-cared for by a dedicated staff of 4 - a director, dean, homestay co-ordinator and an administration assistant. Counsellors are on site and the International Department are available 24 hours per day for emergency calls. |

Sports | Summer and winter sporting programmes: Athletics, Badminton, Bowls, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Futsal, Golf, Crocket, Crocket, Indoor Netball, Indoor Cricket, Korfball, Netball, Softball, Rugby, Rugby League, Summer hockey, Tennis, Super Touch, Squash, Tennis, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Water Polo. Other: Equestrian, Mountain Biking, Surfing, Archery, Rock Climbing, Ten Pin Bowling Outdoor Education is extremely popular. Surfing is offered in Terms 1 and 4 and students have the opportunity to go skiing in the winter. Cultural activities are run at the end of each day. Students wishing to continue with music or learn a new instrument may hire an instrument for free and have free lessons. The Music Department is very active and strong. Students can join the Jazz Band, Choir, Concert Band, Orchestra etc. |
Application process | Students need intermediate level English for mainstream classes. We do run a full time intensive English course for those who do not meet that standard. |
Features of the local area | 15 minutes from the beach and 1 hour from the mountains. We are 10 mins by bus to the city centre. Our school is located next to a large shopping mall so transport around the city is easy. |
